You have to consider that the vows will be exchanged in public, so everyone will hear what you have to say and will be attentive. What is important is not to rush things, because under pressure you will surely not get the vows right and you will end up regretting not doing them earlier. First of all you need to make sure the officiant will accept personalized vows, as some might request traditional vows only.

Try to have a draft at least about three weeks in advance of the wedding, and the final version should be completed at least two days before the ceremony. many people consider that they will write the vows before the wedding, as they will remember them better, but this is one of the most often mistakes. Don’t leave them on the last moment! If you need some inspiration, you can start looking at the traditional vows, just to get a glimpse of what vows usually contain. You can also use the traditional vows as a jumping off point and then go on with your own version.  Before you start writing something, establish the tone you want to set for the vows.
