The renewal of wedding vows is similar to the original wedding, because you will have a ceremony and you will exchange vows again. But this time things don’t have to be so traditional, as not only the minister can perform the ceremony, but someone from your family as well. It is all about bringing that spark again in your marriage, celebrating your love and the fact that you are together and you have passed those first years of marriage. Usually, couples decide to renew wedding vows at anniversaries, to create a milestone in their relationship and to do something special and different.

When planning the ceremony and the party, you are free to invite as many guests as you like and to do anything that you have in mind. If instead you want a private ceremony, it can be just the two of you doing something special away from home. You can easily surprise your spouse and offer flight tickets and when you reach the destination you can show him/her what you have planned. But if you love to be surrounded by friends and family, then you can have a ceremony inviting everyone close to you. Like at the actual wedding, you can send out invitations. Think about if there is going to be a reception afterwards. You can make something simple, like a buffet style meal or a fancy sit-down dinner, according to how serious or unconventional the ceremony is. Hire an officiant to conduct the ceremony and a place as well. It can be the same church or chapel you got married at first. The reception can take at your house or you can go to a restaurant or book a venue. It all depends on the number of guests you have.

Finally, don’t forget about writing the wedding vows, as these are the center of the idea after all. Use your original vows and compare feelings and thoughts, see if you have accomplished what you promised and what plans you have in the future.
